Macomb County showcases the distribution of millions of dollars in small business grants with new digital dashboard

Grants funded through federal CARES Act dollars

Macomb County officials have launched a dashboard to provide current and relevant information about the county's $20 million Small Business Sustainability Grant Program. The funding, provided through the federal CARES Act, is being used to assist "brick and mortar" businesses with lost revenues and expenses incurred due to the pandemic.

The dashboard can be found here. It is interactive and visitors can drill down by industry, community, employee count and minority status. There is also an option to see the number of grants awarded by zip code and location.

"No one could have imagined that we would be granting thousands of businesses relief funds to help them to the other side of the pandemic when this year began." said Vicky Rad, director, Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. "The level of coordination that needed to take place behind the scenes was astounding in terms of verifying applications, entering company information into our vendor system and issuing hundreds and hundreds of checks each week. This dashboard will help the public to see how the money is being spent as well as to help keep applicants informed of progress."

Current featured grant recipients are businesses with less than 50 employees that applied for the funding opportunity with the deadline of June 24. There were 3,900 applicants in this category. Approximately 3,400 businesses were eligible to receive funds and to date, 1,700 checks have been issued.

In the coming weeks, the dashboard will be updated to reflect grant applicants and recipients for the funding opportunity that required 50 to 500 employees. That deadline was August 5.
