Scouting for Food initiative collects over 34,000 pounds of donations for the Macomb Food Program

The Boy Scouts of America joined forces with Gleaners, and Weingartz in Utica for their annual Scouting for Food community service project. This year’s initiative resulted in 34,737 pounds of food donated to the Macomb Food Program.

Scouting for Food is a community service project that addresses the problem of hunger in the Scouts’ own communities. Locally, the project is intended to assist food pantries throughout Macomb County in stocking their inventories ahead of the holiday season.

On Nov. 2, participating Scouts distributed empty plastic bags to residential homes. They returned a week later on Nov. 9 to pick up bags filled with donated food, which were then distributed to the Macomb Food Program in Clinton Township
