Phone numbers from Macomb Community Action being used in attempts to collect sensitive information from residents
Over the past week, Macomb Community Action has received hundreds of calls from all over the state of Michigan inquiring about calls that were made falsely using the agency's name and phone numbers.
Individuals are portraying themselves as representatives from the Social Security and Medicare offices, while displaying Macomb Community Action's information on consumers' caller IDs. During these calls, attempts are being made to obtain insurance or other sensitive information from the public.
To protect the safety of anyone who may receive one of these spoof calls, Macomb Community Action would like to remind the public of the following:
- Do not provide any personal or financial information over the phone in these situations.
- Do not provide any medical information over the phone to someone that is not your primary care physician.
- If you receive a call from someone who says they represent a company or a government agency that you are not familiar with or have any type of relationship with, verify the authenticity of the call before sharing any personal information.
Macomb Community Action takes the privacy of the consumers they serve very seriously. They are confident that no records or systems have experienced any sort of security breach.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Macomb Community Action at (586) 469-6999.
