Executive Mark A. Hackel appoints new director of the Macomb County Office of Senior Services
Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel today announced the appointment of Sheila Cote as the director of the Macomb County Office of Senior Services, a department that provides assistance to senior citizens. Cote previously worked for Macomb County Community Mental Health, where she was director of Community Behavioral Health.
“Sheila’s experience working with specialized populations will be an incredible asset as we look to create a more dynamic system of services for Macomb County’s senior citizens,” said Hackel. “I am confident that she will be a strong leader that brings creativity and passion to the director role.”
“Inclusion of seniors as active members in our community as well as supporting them to remain living in their homes and participate in community activities is essential to our county as a whole,” said Cote. “Our ‘distinguished’ population has much to offer and contribute. I would like to tap into their wealth of knowledge and life experience to better our community.”
Cote has worked for Macomb County Community Mental Health since 1988 and has held a variety of leadership positions throughout her 30-year tenure. Most recently, she oversaw grant writing and operations for children and family services, crisis services and same-day open access mental health services. Her certifications include a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University and multiple accreditations as a clinical social worker with the State of Michigan.
As specified by the Macomb County Charter, the county executive has the authority to appoint department directors. This appointment must be confirmed by the Board of Commissioners.
