About Vicki Wolber

Macomb County Deputy County Executive

Vicki Wolber was appointed to the position of deputy county executive by County Executive Mark A. Hackel in November 2018. In this capacity, she is a liaison for public safety and criminal justice-related programs and provides oversight for several county departments, including Animal Control, Community Corrections, Emergency Management & Communications and the Juvenile Justice Center. She is also working to create a Public Defender’s Office within the county government structure and serves as one of two Macomb County representatives on the SMART Board of Directors.

Mrs. Wolber began working with the county in 2000 when she was hired as the assistant director for Emergency Management and Communications. In 2007, she was promoted to director. In this position, she oversaw the daily activities of the department as well as those of the county’s Technical Services Division. Mrs. Wolber was entrusted with preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation activities as they pertain to large-scale emergencies or disasters which can affect the entire county. She also managed the coordination, oversight and maintenance of the county’s 800 MHz Public Safety Radio Communications System, which provides voice communications for all of the public safety agencies in the county.

Notably, Mrs. Wolber helped launch the Communications & Technology Center (COMTEC) for Macomb County, which was completed in December 2013. COMTEC is a state-of-the-art facility which houses the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch, the Road Department Traffic Operations Center, the Information Technology Department and their Data Center, along with the Emergency Management Office.

Prior to her career with Macomb County, Mrs. Wolber was employed by the City of Fraser. Here she served in many capacities; starting in 1988 as a part-time secretary within the Department of Public Works, progressing to emergency management coordinator and then serving as deputy city clerk. She is a certified Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) in the State of Michigan and a graduate of Walsh College (BBA, 2008) and Macomb Community College (general business associate degree, 1997). In 2005 she was awarded the Mitigation of the Year Award by the Michigan Emergency Management Association and in 2007, she was named Local Coordinator of the Year by the same professional group. Most recently, in October 2014, she was awarded the Professional Emergency Manager of the Year award for the State of Michigan by the Michigan State Police Emergency Management Homeland Security Division.

Mrs. Wolber was an adjunct professor for Macomb Community College from 2012 – 2019, teaching an Introduction to Emergency Management course in their Public Service Institute. She is married with one daughter and is an active member of Warren Woods Baptist Church.
