Mark's Message It has been a busy month of great things taking place around the county. Just this week, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Freedom Hill Park to celebrate a private investment recently made at the facility to reconstruct park grounds and install walkways, benches and new landscaping. Leaders Advancing Macomb (LAM), Florence Cement and Ultimate Lawn Service joined together for this project to extend the use of the park and mitigate storm water runoff issues. This project is the first official investment from LAM, which has a mission to support Macomb communities and business development in the county and to help protect the county’s natural resources. I’m glad LAM chose Freedom Hill as a place to launch its philanthropic efforts. It’s hard to believe, but it’s that time again. The fourth annual Macomb County State of the County Address will be taking place Dec. 3. More information about the address will follow in upcoming Macomb Matters issues. This year we will celebrate Macomb County by looking back at the great strides this county has taken over the past four years. Together we have accomplished a lot and I look forward to sharing it with you. Finally, I hope everyone is enjoying the fall season. There’s still time to visit one of our great apple orchards or cider mills if you haven’t done so yet. Also, don’t forget to visit Tillson Street in Romeo, an amazing street of scares unique to Macomb County! Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Employee Focus - Shelley LeMireBy: Sarah Cormier, Macomb County Executive Office There are probably only a few people in Macomb County Circuit Court that can say they know almost every aspect of how the facility works. Shelley LeMire is one of those people. An 18-year veteran of the court, LeMire, now a judicial secretary, has worked in many different capacities. When she first started working for the county, she worked in the Clerk’s Office file room. She then worked as a court clerk for Judge Mark Swiatalski for four years, followed up as judicial secretary for then-Judge David Viviano (now on the Michigan Supreme Court). These days, she finds herself working on the fifth floor of the law library. No day is typical for LeMire, who assists wherever she is needed. If one of the judge’s secretaries is absent, her first priority is to fill in. She also assigns files from the judges to the various research attorneys so they can perform case studies. On Wednesday, she is probate court clerk for Judge Carl Marlinga. Read more...
