Macomb County Records First COVID-19 Death
A Macomb County resident has died from COVID-19. The deceased was a 52-year-old man with underlying health conditions. The death occurred at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township.
A 1-month-old infant Macomb County resident has tested positive for COVID-19. A 100-year-old resident has also tested positive. No additional information about the cases has yet been released.
“These most recent developments are extremely troubling. They also show that this virus knows no boundaries. Our hearts reach out to the families and loved ones of these individuals,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.
“These are real people. Any one of us could have contracted this virus. This is a sad day for all of us in Macomb County,” Hackel said.
As of 8 p.m. Saturday, March 21, Macomb County has recorded 121 positive cases. Of those, 20 percent are hospitalized, 25 percent reported an underlying medical condition and 52 percent of those are over age 50. The virus is impacting all Macomb County communities.
Hackel stressed that people need to take all possible precautions against the virus. “You have to start doing self-assessment. Take your temperature. If you feel like you need to get checked out, talk to your health care provider. When in doubt, just stay away from people. Do what you can to keep each other safe,” Hackel said.
