Executive Mark Hackel appoints new leadership for Macomb Community Action
Macomb County is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Scott as the new Director of Macomb Community Action (MCA). Edward brings a wealth of experience and expertise in leadership, community engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
“Ed [Scott] brings extensive experience in leadership, and community engagement that make him the ideal candidate for this role," said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. "I am confident that under his guidance, the organization will continue to make significant strides in empowering our community members to reach their fullest potential."
Edward Scott joins Macomb County Community Action after an impressive tenure at Michigan State University Extension, where he held various leadership roles since 2010. With a background focused on non-profit organizations and youth development programs, Edward's strategic approach and commitment to targeting underserved audiences have yielded significant results in creating a welcoming and equitable environment. He has successfully fostered relationships with stakeholders, including government entities, nonprofits, and community partners, ensuring vital resources reach those who need them the most.
Edward's commitment extends beyond his professional roles. He has actively participated in national conferences, sharing valuable insights on volunteer recruitment and mentorship programs. As a member of various DEI facilitation teams, he has led transformative discussions on multicultural self-awareness and leadership, fostering understanding and collaboration among diverse groups. Edward's dedication to creating an inclusive work environment is reflected in his facilitation of affinity focus groups, providing employees of color with a platform to share their experiences and contribute to improvements.
His expertise has been recognized at the national level, as he has contributed to curriculum design and delivery teams within the USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the National Urban Extension Leaders training programs.
"I am truly excited to begin working alongside the amazing staff at Macomb Community Action,” said Edward Scott. “I have always been in alignment with the mission of Community Action Agencies, and in my previous role I have had the privilege of working on the occasional project or initiative with some of the staff. It's really an honor to have this opportunity to work with such a talented, hardworking, and dedicated team of individuals. I'm looking forward to continuing and expanding on the great work they have done in improving the lives of Macomb County residents."
